What do Mississauga's municipal cemeteries offer?

The City of Mississauga looks after 11 cemeteries, most of them historic. To request an interment, call 311 (905-615-4311 from outside the city). Burials still take place at Streetsville Public, Erindale Cosmopolitan and Britannia cemeteries, on lots already sold at Eden, Moore's and Dixie Union, and in the Streetsville Memorial columbarium. New space is limited to columbarium niches at Erindale Cosmopolitan and Streetsville Memorial, and to the scattering garden at Streetsville Public.

What to know before the day:

  • request the interment at least 48 hours ahead, and bring the burial permit on the day;
  • a funeral at the cemetery between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on a weekday has no surcharge;
  • in 2026, a funeral after 3:30 p.m. adds $483.92, a weekend funeral $897.25 and a statutory holiday $934.92, HST included. The cemetery by-law restricts interments on Sundays, Good Friday and Christmas Day, so confirm available days with the cemetery office.

Can you scatter ashes in Mississauga?

Not in a City park: the Parks By-law forbids burying or scattering cremated remains in a park outside a designated area. The City's own option is the scattering garden at Streetsville Public Cemetery, 1786 Bristol Road West, a tree-lined cemetery overlooking the Credit River, where a plaque can be added to the scattering wall. In 2026, scattering costs $454.44 for residents and $568.05 for non-residents, HST included.

Beyond City parks, Ontario allows ashes to be scattered on private land with the owner's consent, and on unoccupied Crown land, including land covered by water, where no sign prohibits it.

Can you hold a service in a Mississauga park?

Only with a permit. The Parks By-law does not allow a funeral service in a park, outside a cemetery or designated area, unless the City has authorized it. Request a park permit, or a room, chapel or event venue, with the City's facility rental form more than 14 days ahead; for a date within 14 days, call 905-615-4100. Social gatherings need facility user insurance, which you can buy when you book.

Two City venues suit a gathering after the service:

  • Streetsville Heritage Hall, 327 Queen Street South: a City-owned historic hall for about 100 people;
  • C Banquets, 300 City Centre Drive, 12th floor, in the Civic Centre: a catered venue for up to 200 guests, with the City's own menu only (905-615-3200 ext. 2969).

How can you leave a memorial in Mississauga?

Through the City's donation program, a standard memorial tree costs $1,406.41, planted in spring or fall; a standard bench $1,123.86, or $4,624.57 for an upgraded one. A commemorative plaque can be added for $336.29. Call 311 to start.

When is a celebrant a good fit?

When you want a ceremony that tells the story of the person. A celebrant from our local network comes to the place you choose, whether a funeral home, a cemetery, a hall, a permitted park space or your home, and writes the ceremony around the person's life, religious or not. The price is shown upfront, all-in. If the celebrant becomes unavailable, Celebrance finds a replacement.
