Where can you hold a celebration of life in Collingwood?

It costs $34 an hour, $109 for four hours or $255 for the day. The Arboretum and Pergola, the Friendship Gardens and Millennium Park cost $25 an hour or $249 a day. The Sunset Point Park Pavilion is an enclosed, rustic building for 35 to 40 guests, at $31 an hour. Indoors, the Collingwood Museum holds up to 100 people, at $353 for three hours. Can you scatter ashes in Collingwood?

Yes, within the provincial rules, but check with the Town before you use Town land. Ontario allows scattering on private land with the owner's consent. It also allows scattering on Crown land, including land covered by water, if it is unoccupied and no sign prohibits it. The Bereavement Authority of Ontario gives the Great Lakes as an example. Scattering on municipal land is allowed where no by-law forbids it. A private landowner cannot charge you a fee unless they are a licensed cemetery operator. Before you scatter ashes in a Town park or along the waterfront, call Service Collingwood at 705-445-1030.

How can you honour someone with a tree or bench in Collingwood?

The Town's memorial program offers a dedicated tree for $500, which covers the tree, planting and a plaque. The tree is guaranteed for life. A memorial bench costs $1,700, which covers the bench, a poured concrete pad, installation and a plaque. Both donations come with a tax receipt. Space is very limited. At the time of writing, trees can go in Walnut Street Park or Kinsmen Park and benches on the Promenade, and every other location is at capacity. Requests go through a Service Collingwood service request.

Who registers the death in Collingwood?

Usually the funeral director does, although a family member can also register it. In Ontario, the death is usually registered with the municipality where it happened. A burial permit, needed for a burial or a cremation, is issued only once the death is registered. The Town of Collingwood's 2026 fee for a death registration is $20. The Clerk's office is at Town Hall, 97 Hurontario Street, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

When is a celebrant a good fit?

A celebrant is a good fit when you want a ceremony that speaks about the person, religious or not. A celebrant from our local network comes to the place you choose, whether that is a funeral home, a cemetery, a park, a hall or your home. They write the ceremony around the person's life. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if the celebrant becomes unavailable, Celebrance finds a replacement.
