What does the Brampton Cemetery offer?
The City runs the Brampton Cemetery, 10 Wilson Avenue, in use since 1863, and cares for 25 pioneer cemeteries across Brampton. The office is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (905-874-2997, cemetery@brampton.ca).
No traditional burial graves remain: the cemetery now offers cremation graves and columbarium niches. It has no reception area, but a service can be held at the graveside. Interments take place Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with at least 48 hours' notice, and not on Sundays except in special circumstances. Saturday, Sunday and holiday interments carry a surcharge, from $412.72 before HST in 2026.
Before a burial or cremation, the death must be registered with the municipality, usually the one where it occurred. In Brampton, the City Clerk's Office then issues the burial permit.
Can you scatter ashes in Brampton?
Not at the Brampton Cemetery, which has no scattering ground, and not at a City memorial tree or bench. Ontario allows ashes to be scattered on private land with the owner's consent, and on unoccupied Crown land, including land covered by water, where no sign prohibits it. For City property, Brampton's cemetery office notes that the landowner's permission is needed.
Where can you hold a celebration of life in Brampton?
Brampton's recreation centres rent event and meeting rooms. Book through Facility Rentals at 905-874-2665 or facilityrentals@brampton.ca. A 20% deposit is non-refundable, and any refund needs at least two weeks' notice.
Outdoors, the Park Lands By-law requires a permit for a public gathering, a picnic of more than 15 people or any other organized event, and for amplifying a voice or music. Park rentals close for the season on October 31, 2026. At Chinguacousy Park, picnic shelters are rented by the day, by permit only (905-458-6555): the largest holds up to 500 people, amplified sound is not allowed, and there are no refunds within 14 days of the date or for weather.
How can you dedicate a tree or bench in Brampton?
The City offers these dedications in its parks and at the Brampton Cemetery, with 2026 prices including HST:
Dedication | Location | Price |
|---|---|---|
Tree | Park | $442.98 |
Tree and plaque | Park | $1,260.97 |
Tree and plaque | Cemetery | $1,505.97 |
Metal bench | Park | $2,150.27 |
Wooden bench | Cemetery | $2,568.12 |
Orders received by mid-March are installed around May and June; by mid-July, around September to November. Flowers and mementos cannot be left at a dedication.
When is a celebrant a good fit?
When you want a ceremony that tells the story of the person. A celebrant from our local network comes to the place you choose, whether a funeral home, a cemetery graveside, a hall, a park with a permit or your home, and writes the ceremony around the person's life, religious or not. The price is shown upfront, all-in. If the celebrant becomes unavailable, Celebrance finds a replacement.
