Where do you get a marriage licence in Prince Edward County?

The County issues marriage licences at the Clerk's Office, Shire Hall, 332 Picton Main Street, by appointment, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. You fill in the paper application and book your appointment with the Clerk's Office (clerks@pecounty.on.ca or 613-476-2148 ext. 1020). Only one of you needs to attend, with two pieces of valid ID for each of you.

The fee is $140, payable by cash, debit or credit. Good news for couples coming from Toronto, Ottawa or further: you can get your licence from any Ontario municipality and still marry in the County. Just remember that it is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued.

Can the County marry you?

Yes, on Fridays during office hours, booked ahead, with a County officiant, at two venues:

Shire Hall Council Chambers, Picton

$350 + tax

About 25 to 30

Macaulay Heritage Park, Picton

$550 + tax

About 25 to 30

Bookings last 1 hour, the fees don't include the licence, and the County can provide your 2 witnesses (both over 16). Alcohol, rice and confetti aren't allowed. Changes or cancellations need 14 business days' notice, and the fee is non-refundable.

A County wedding on your own terms

The County's wineries, barns, farms and beaches draw couples from across Ontario, mostly for Saturday weddings with more than 30 guests. A private officiant travels to your venue on the day you choose and writes the ceremony with you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, travel within the County included, and if your officiant can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost: peace of mind when everyone has driven two or three hours to be there.

How far ahead should you plan?

County summer and fall Saturdays book up early, for venues and officiants alike. Secure your officiant as soon as you have a date, then get your licence within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.
