Where do you get a marriage licence in Muskoka?
Muskoka's three towns issue marriage licences, each by appointment and each with the online ServiceOntario application:
Town | Office | 2026 fee |
|---|---|---|
Bracebridge | Municipal Office, 1000 Taylor Court | $170 |
Huntsville | Municipal office, 37 Main Street East | $181 |
Gravenhurst | Town Hall, 3-5 Pineridge Gate | $161 |
A few local details help:
- Bracebridge: after an online application, staff contact you within two business days to book the appointment. Only one of you needs to pick up the licence.
- Huntsville: the Town says appointments are currently limited and cannot be guaranteed, so apply early. The appointment takes about 30 minutes.
- Gravenhurst: book the appointment at least 2 business days after applying online; one of you can attend with both sets of original ID.
You don't have to pick up the licence in the town where you marry: with a valid Ontario licence and an officiant, you can marry anywhere in the province, with the property owner's permission. The licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued.
Can a Muskoka town marry you?
Bracebridge and Huntsville do not perform civil marriages. Gravenhurst does: Town-appointed Wedding Commissioners marry couples anywhere within the Town of Gravenhurst for $360 + HST, including one pre-ceremony meeting. You bring 2 witnesses, or the Town provides them for $28 + HST each at the Municipal Office.
Your cottage, your dock, your officiant
Most Muskoka weddings happen at a cottage, a resort or on the water, often far from a town office and often on a summer Saturday. A private officiant travels to your venue and writes the ceremony with you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, travel within the Muskoka zone included. If your officiant can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost, which matters when your venue is an hour's drive down a lake road.
How far ahead should you plan?
Muskoka's wedding season is short and Saturdays in July and August go first. Book your officiant as soon as you have a date, then book your licence appointment within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.
Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the official pages of Bracebridge, Huntsville and Gravenhurst. Fees and availability change: confirm with the town before your appointment.
