Where do you get a marriage licence in Kitchener?

Kitchener issues marriage licences at City Hall, 200 King Street West, through the Legislated Services Division. Walk-ins are accepted Monday to Friday, but licences are not issued after 4:30 p.m.

You can also start online through the ServiceOntario portal. In that case, book an appointment at City Hall to pick up the licence, don't upload your ID with the online application, and bring two original government-issued IDs for each of you to the appointment.

The fee is $180 (2026), paid in person by cash, cheque or debit. The licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued.

Where can you get married in Kitchener?

With a valid Ontario licence and an officiant, you can marry anywhere in Ontario, with the property owner's permission. The City itself lists 17 locations where you can hold a wedding or a reception, including the Victoria Park Pavilion. For photos, the City Hall Rotunda and Victoria Park are free, with no reservation needed: the City suggests checking with staff in case an event is scheduled.

The City's pages don't describe a civil ceremony performed by City staff, so plan on your own officiant.

Choosing your officiant in Kitchener-Waterloo

A private officiant comes to your venue, whether it's the Victoria Park Pavilion, a barn outside the city or a restaurant downtown, and writes the ceremony with you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if your officiant can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost.

Kitchener is part of our Kitchener-Waterloo zone, which also covers Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and Stratford.

How far ahead should you plan?

Book your officiant as soon as your date is set: summer and early fall Saturdays go first. Then get your licence within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.

Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the City of Kitchener's official pages. Fees and hours can change: confirm with the City before you go.
