Where do you get a marriage licence in Kingston?

Kingston issues marriage licences at City Hall, 216 Ontario Street, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You apply online through ServiceOntario (the City's "Apply Now" button leads there), and City staff then arrange your licence appointment, giving priority according to your ceremony date.

The fee is $188, or $94 for eligible residents enrolled in the City's Municipal Fee Assistance Program. The licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued.

Can you get married at Kingston City Hall?

Yes, in Memorial Hall, on set Fridays listed in the City's 2026-2027 booking schedule. The fee is $350, rising to $400 on January 1, 2027. Up to 20 people can attend, including the officiant, the couple and the witnesses. The ceremony lasts up to 15 minutes, plus 15 minutes for photos and paperwork, and you choose from three vow options: short and sweet, modern or traditional.

Book at least 14 days and no more than 90 days ahead. The City can provide witnesses for $25 each and offers free American Sign Language interpretation on request. Religious elements, alcohol, rice, confetti, candles, music and live flowers aren't allowed at City Hall.

When is a private officiant a better fit?

Kingston's limestone heritage, waterfront and nearby islands make for beautiful ceremonies, often on a Saturday and often with music, flowers and a few more than 20 guests. A private officiant comes to your venue and writes a ceremony around your story, religious or not. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if your officiant can't make it, we send a replacement at no cost.

Kingston is also our hub for the east: local officiants travel to Prince Edward County and the Thousand Islands area.

How far ahead should you plan?

Book your officiant as soon as your date is set, then apply for your licence within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.

Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the City of Kingston's official page. Fees and schedules can change: confirm with the City before you book.
