Where do you get a marriage licence in Kawartha Lakes?
The City of Kawartha Lakes issues marriage licences at the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 26 Francis Street in Lindsay (not the Old Lindsay Town Hall on Kent Street West). Licences are issued by appointment on Fridays only, with no walk-ins, and your documents must be uploaded by 4:30 p.m. on the Monday before your Friday appointment, or the appointment may be forfeited. The Province also lists the City as a pick-up location for the online ServiceOntario application.
The fee the City currently publishes is $150, paid at the appointment by cash, debit or credit. The licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued.
Can the City marry you?
Yes. A Municipal Clerk performs ceremonies at City Hall on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $300, after hours for $350, or off-site for $400 (plus mileage outside Kawartha Lakes). Rooms range from the 2nd Floor Atrium (up to 6 people) to Council Chambers (up to 20) and the Victoria Room (about 25). You request a date at least 10 days ahead, and a consultation with both of you is required.
But note for 2026: during the municipal election season, clerk officiants are less available, and from August to October almost all ceremony requests may be denied. The outdoor East Lawn Staircase is also closed from mid-May to October 2026 for landscaping.
Lakes, cottages and your own officiant
Many Kawartha weddings happen at a cottage or on the water, and in 2026 the City's own availability is tight. A private officiant comes to your venue, any day, and writes the ceremony with you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if your officiant can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost.
How far ahead should you plan?
Book your officiant as soon as your date is set. Then plan your Friday licence appointment within the 3 months before the wedding, leaving time for the Monday document deadline. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.
Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the City of Kawartha Lakes' official pages. Fees change annually: confirm with the City Clerk's Office before your appointment.
