Where do you get a marriage licence in Guelph?

Guelph issues marriage licences at City Hall, 1 Carden Street, by appointment. Complete and sign the PDF application, then upload the scans through the City's online form. The City replies by email within three business days to confirm your issuing appointment, which takes about 20 minutes. Either of you, or both, can attend.

The fee is $165, payable by cash, debit or credit. Appointments are usually available within two weeks, but the City warns that it can take up to four weeks in spring and summer, so don't leave it to the last minute. The licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued. For questions, ServiceGuelph answers at 519-822-1260 ext. 2117.

Can you get married at Guelph City Hall?

Not in 2026. The City says City Hall was fully booked for marriage ceremonies from January to March 2026, and that no ceremony appointments will be offered from April to December 2026. The City plans to update its ceremony services in December 2026. For a 2026 wedding in Guelph, you need your own officiant.

Getting married in Guelph with a private officiant

With City Hall unavailable, a private officiant is the simplest way to marry in Guelph, at a local venue, a garden, a farm or your home. The officiant comes to you and writes the ceremony with you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if your officiant can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost.

Guelph is part of our Kitchener-Waterloo zone, so local officiants cover Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Stratford.

How far ahead should you plan?

Book your officiant first, as soon as your date is set. Then request your licence appointment early, especially for a spring or summer wedding, and within the 3 months before the date. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.

Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the City of Guelph's official pages. Fees and availability change: confirm with the City before you apply.
