Where do you get a marriage licence in Cambridge?
Cambridge issues marriage licences at the Service Cambridge counter, first floor of City Hall, 50 Dickson Street. Start with the ServiceOntario Marriage Licence Portal: submit your application, including your wedding date, then book your pick-up appointment in the portal by searching for the City of Cambridge. Bring your original documents to the appointment. If information is incorrect or a document is missing, the appointment won't go ahead.
The fee is $187 (2026), payable by cash, Visa, Mastercard or debit. The licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued.
Can you get married at Cambridge City Hall?
Yes, at Historic City Hall, 46 Dickson Street, with a City-provided officiant, on Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (other days if the space is free). The 2026 fees are a $164 administrative fee plus a $242 officiant fee per wedding, and $35 per witness if you need the City to provide them. Because of space and fire code, the limit is 50 people. Book by phone at 519-623-1340 or in person at City Hall; missed or cancelled ceremonies aren't refunded.
Good to know: arrive no more than 5 to 10 minutes early, and photos are allowed only in the ceremony space. For outdoor photos or a ceremony, the City calls Mill Race Park its most popular spot and suggests reserving a time slot.
When is a private officiant a better fit?
For a weekend wedding, a larger guest list, a ceremony at Mill Race Park, your own venue or a ceremony written around your story, a private officiant comes to you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if your officiant can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost.
How far ahead should you plan?
Book your officiant as soon as your date is set, then apply through the portal within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.
Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the City of Cambridge's official pages. Fees and hours can change: confirm with the City before your appointment.
