Where do you get a marriage licence in Brampton?

Marriage licences are issued by the City Clerk's Office at Brampton City Hall, 2 Wellington Street West, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., by appointment or as a walk-in (first come, first served). Start with the City's online marriage licence application: you receive a reference number by email to bring with you. One or both of you can attend.

The fee is $175, with no HST. The City takes debit and credit cards, not cash, and the fee is non-refundable. An Ontario licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued, so don't pick it up too early.

Brampton publishes its marriage licence information in 11 languages besides English, including French, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil and Tagalog. At the counter, you must speak and read English competently or bring your own interpreter, who shows ID and completes a declaration.

Underground parking is available at City Hall, entered from George Street.

Can you get married at Brampton City Hall?

Yes, with a simple civil ceremony, Monday to Friday during office hours, by appointment only. It costs $395.50, HST included, on top of the licence. The ceremony lasts up to 30 minutes, uses the City's set script, and is held in English only. You need 2 witnesses, one for each of you, aged at least 16, and no more than 12 people may attend, including the couple and the witnesses.

When is a private officiant a better fit?

The City Hall ceremony suits a small, short weekday wedding. If you want more guests, a weekend date, your own venue, or a ceremony written around your story rather than a set script, a private officiant comes to you. With Celebrance, the price is shown upfront, all-in, and if your officiant can't make it, we send a replacement at no cost. Tell us the language of your families when you contact us, and we will do our best to match you with an officiant who speaks it.

How far ahead should you plan?

Book your officiant as soon as your date is set, then get your licence within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.
