Where do you get a marriage licence in Barrie?

Barrie issues marriage licences at Service Barrie, on the first floor of City Hall, 70 Collier Street. The process starts online: you apply through ServiceOntario, then book an appointment through ServiceOntario to finalize your licence at Service Barrie. Service Barrie is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The City's fee is $145, paid at the appointment by cash, debit or credit card. Only one of you needs to go, as long as you bring your partner's original ID too. Remember that an Ontario licence is valid for 3 months from the day it is issued: don't book the appointment too early.

Can you get married at Barrie City Hall?

Not by a City official: the City Clerk does not perform marriage ceremonies. You can, however, rent the Rotunda at City Hall for your ceremony, on Saturdays only, with seating for 80 guests. The booking fee is $186.50 per ceremony (HST included, non-refundable), plus a security fee of $33.09 per hour. You bring your own officiant and your 2 witnesses. Candles, confetti and smoking are not allowed.

Why do Barrie couples book their own officiant?

Because the City doesn't marry couples, every Barrie wedding needs an authorized officiant, whether it takes place in the Rotunda, on the Kempenfelt Bay waterfront, at a golf club or in your backyard. With Celebrance, you see the price upfront, all-in, and the officiant comes to your venue. If they can't make it on the day, we send a replacement at no cost.

Barrie is also the gateway to cottage country: our officiants cover Orillia and travel to Muskoka and Collingwood too.

How far ahead should you plan?

Saturdays in summer are the first dates to go, both for the Rotunda and for officiants. Book your officiant as soon as your date is set, then apply for your licence within the 3 months before the wedding. Our marriage licence planner gives you the exact dates.

Information checked on September 24, 2026 against the City of Barrie's official pages. Fees and hours can change: confirm with Service Barrie before your appointment.
